Alitis (h) - a polyphonic fairy tale

A young heroine escapes from a barren village, where people and animals are suffering from a long drought and poverty, and embarks on a journey of search and transformation. She will wander for a long time, longing for a spring that is too late, that must come, that will come.

The voice of actress Aliki Atsalaki (Heraklion) in the narration weaves the story of the wandering (tramp) heroine. The female voices of the vocal ensembles Perperúna (Berlin) and Lali Toupli (Heraklion) sing her memories and present, becoming her body and senses, through vocal improvisations, original vocal musical themes and traditional polyphonic sounds of the Balkans. The filmmaker and photographer Chrysanthi Goula invests individual scenes of the polyphonic narration with projections of video and image material on surfaces of the surrounding space, composing the unique setting of the…
